What is Interrobang Type?

This is the online shop for typefaces, fonts and other type-related items created by me, Derek Weathersbee. It has been known since 2014 as Weathersbee Type. I decided, however, that I wanted to use a name that has more memorability and visual modularity.

It is for the most part a one-man operation, meaning that much has been invested in every part of what you’re seeing, from the typefaces themselves to the method in which they are presented. Occasionally, though, I collaborate and sell or show those fonts as well. This is part of why I chose to rename my foundry Interrobang Type. I love and will always cling to ownership of what we release as a collective. But I can only release and claim ownership to so many fonts before I NEED the input and the celebration of new type designers, particularly those who have learned from myself and gone beyond their formal education to create things I would never dream of.

Who am I?

I’m a graphic designer by trade, and I also build websites. I occasionally, and increasingly, write about things that I believe I have something to say about, and I’ve also been an instructor of design and development at Amarillo College since 2012. While working with all this type, I discovered I really enjoy creating typography, and am very efficient and intuitive in creating it.

I’ve been working with it for a couple decades, and have been drawing my own letters for as long as I can remember. In 2008, I built a typeface that I thought would be useful and one whose specific variety I hadn’t seen in a professionally-made font. So I created Franchise, and soon after, the floodgates were opened. It was through this project that I discovered creating typography is something I’m good at. That first typeface has been used by just about every large company in the US, and thousands of other businesses.

I won’t tell my entire life story here, but I will say this: I have a wife and two children, I live and work out of Amarillo, my home town, and I play a lot of sports and music and like to make everything I can into a competition. It is likely that you will see references to these things in my work and writing.
