The Font

The latest addition to my type library is a font which I couldn’t have imagined 3 weeks ago, but boy am I glad that I made it. Much like the original Weathersbee font staple, Franchise, it can play an outrageous number of typographic roles; the difference here is that WT Iron brings the power, the aggression, the energy, and brings the dorky shapes of a sci-fi tech font.

WT Iron is a font whose genesis, like many of my type ventures, lies in the extension of a work-a-day task. In this case, I got a “simple” ask from my brother to cut out WEATHERSBEE into wood to complete his 2020-induced home gym using my CNC. I have never been a fan of the bland jersey letter style, but needed to match it but add a little character to it. So a couple hours yielded a full uppercase alphabet.

An accidental shortening of “W” turned into small caps and numbers, which didn’t seem to make sense without lowercase. So a couple rapid-fire sessions later, refusing to introduce curves or new DNA, I had a full and surprisingly strong, memorable display font.

I hope your are as giddy as myself about how much of a chameleon the face is — but not in an invisible way. It takes on the mood of its topic or industry, and appears as a font designed specially for it. Don’t believe me? Type your company name in the tester, and I bet it somehow feels appropriate.

License Details

Choose the options that will cover all your anticipated needs.

  • User Number *

    Choose the number of users (or machines) that will be using the font. This license is to cover one specific entity, to be listed below. Notice, the User Amounts above 1 add to the base price.

  • Licensee *

    List the individual or entity to whom the license is to cover.

  • Web Usage *

    Allows for usage of the font as live html text via @font-face. This is a one-time, perpetual license for one domain. It covers sub-domains and sub-directories, so long as the usage is for one entity, as opposed to sub-users such as derekweathersbee.shoes.com and jimbob.shoes.com.

  • Web Domain *

    Enter the name of the domain which this license is to cover.

  • Allows for embedding of the fonts in eBooks, mobile apps, and dynamic advertisements like digital kiosks and billboards.

  • App/Embedding Title *

    Please provide a Title to be referred to in the license extension, and a brief (1 sentence) description of the usage or product.

  • This refers to items that not only use the font for communication or identification, but display the font as a prominent feature of the product’s design. A tee with a quote set in the font is such an example.

  • Products Title *

    Please provide a Title to refer to your usage in the license extension, such as "Albatross Apparrel", with a short description (1 sentence) of how it's to be used.

  • This refers to items that not only use the font, but allow the end user to customize items using the font, whether it be on print, apparel, or other consumer goods.

  • Customizable Products Title *

    Please provide a title for the usage to be referenced in the license extension, such as "Custom Gear for Breakneck Sports," along with a brief (1 sentence) description of your intended usage.

  • Allows for installation & usage of fonts on all computers necessary for broadcasting, including television, film and commercials. Online broadcasting is also allowed. Per title or venture.

  • Please provide a specific title to be used in the license extension, such as "Rocky 12 Motion Picture," along with a short (1 sentence) description of its usage.

  • This licence allows a single user or organization unlimited seats and use in any and all media, as well as the temporary distribution of the font to those needing it for the support of your branding. Includes desktop, web, app and broadcasting usage, as well as non-customizable products that promote the company.

  • Corporate License Title *

    Please provide the name of the organization to be referenced in the license extension, as well as a brief (1 sentence) description of the usage or company type.

Ordering

Full Extensions

  • Desktop

    Appriopriate for most all your print needs, allowing you to create documents, branding, logos, banners and other static graphic materials.

  • Web Font

    Allows for usage of the font as live html text via @font-face. This is different than static banners or graphics created for the web. If you're using it for content, buy the web font license.

    Amount increases per volume of pageviews.

  • Embedding

    Allows for embedding of the fonts in e-books, mobile apps, and dynamic advertisements like digital kiosks and billboards.

  • Broadcasting

    Allows for installation & usage of fonts on all computers necessary for broadcasting, including television, film and commercials. Online broadcasting is also allowed. Per title or venture.

  • Corporate

    This licence allows a single corporate entity unlimited seats and use in any and all media, in perpetuity, as well as the temporary distribution1 of the font to those needing it for the support of your branding. Includes desktop, web, app and broadcasting2 usage.

  1. Those to whom the font are distributed as a necessity must discard files upon completion of Licensed Client's task. Broadcasting license covers usage for Client Promotion, not unrelated ventures.
  2. This refers to broadcasting usage for the promotion of that corporate entity. If such entity were to, for example, produce a motion picture, which is a separate venture, a separate license would be required for that.
  3. This does not include alphabet product usage. Nobody but myself and/or a partnership between myself and another party have this right.

Note that all types of licenses must stack on top of a desktop purchase. Contact me for any licensing not listed.

This excludes alphabet products that consist entirely of the font's likeness. Examples include letter stickers, wooden letters, or other separated instances of the font's letters.
